Even though the Atlantic Ocean Road in Norway is well-built and well-maintained, it is exposed to the fury of the Norwegian Sea. During construction of the road between 1983 and 1989, the area was hit by twelve hurricanes. During bad weather, the road leaves drivers at risk of aquaplaning, poor visibility, or being swept out to sea.
