Heart It
World Sight Day is an annual day of awareness held on the second Thursday of October, to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment. This year, World Sight Day will take place on 8 October 2020 with the theme: Hope In Sight. Reduced eyesight can be caused by several factors, including diseases like diabetes and trachoma, trauma to the eyes, or conditions such as refractive error, cataracts, age-related macular degeneration or glaucoma.
Blurred vision, dry eyes, watery eyes, headache - all are signs of impending vision loss. Act timely to avoid serious eye-related problems. Consultant Nutritionist Rupali Dutta hails vitamin A as the most important nutrient for eyesight. 'Vitamin A is full of antioxidants that boost our vision, bones and our immune system. Vitamin A protects the surface of the eyes and cornea, and also helps prevent age-related macular degeneration of the eyes." It's easy to forget how important eye health is, until a problem comes up. Here are some easy, commonsense tips to maintain good eye health.
Eat greens
Ingesting lots of leafy green vegetables like spinach, collard greens and kale help avoid macular degeneration. (The "macula" is an area at the back of the eye that enables us to see fine details. When the macula doesn't work, there is blurriness or darkness in the center of our vision).
