Heart It
YOUR HOBBIESThere's much research to suggest that rather than putting up your feet in your spare time, starting a hobby can keep mental deterioration at bay into old age and even stave off depression.
Write a list of fun things you do on your own. This might include singing in the shower; dancing in the kitchen; watching football on TV; knitting or sewing; and trying new recipes.
Now think about how you could do their equivalent with others. For example: joining a choir or tango class; going to a football game; joining an organised walk; finding a 'stitch and bitch' knitting group near you; joining a regional branch of the Clandestine Cake Club.
Choose the one that appeals the most and arrange to do it on one of your two days of the week.
It doesn't have to cost money. Try the Meet Up website (meetup.com) where people across the country set up clubs or groups for an amazing range of interests. Upcoming events in my area include an amateur photography class, climbing lessons and a book club.
