Why Lord Krishna wears a peacock feather on his crown
Krishna is said to have been born 5200 years ago and he is the most popular and also the most powerful incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who is said to have been born to free the Earth from all evil. Cursed that he could never be a king, Krishna is responsible for the making of kings and their empires. While the Lord wears many ornaments, his constant accessory is a peacock feather in his hair. The peacock feather in Lord Krishna's hair is as iconic as the lord himself. The devotees lovingly call Lord Krishna as 'Mormukut Dhari', which translates as 'the one who wears a crown of peacock feathers'.
Legend says
In Govardhan hills, once when Krishna was playing his flute, the sweet melody that poured out made the peacocks dance in joy and excitement. At the end of a long dance they spread their feathers and the king Peacock offered with great humility its feathers as an offering. The lord accepted it and adorned himself with it.
The seven colours
It is said that the all the seven primary colours are present in the feather of a peacock. It is said that Lord Krishna wears the peacock feather in his hair to show that he has all the colours of life within him. Lord Krishna is someone who embodies the whole universe and he holds us in trance with all his varied forms, views and personalities.
