Their varna, vyas and tara, yoni, maitri, gana, bhakut and nadi are matched. Similar qualities or gunas give points. Each quality has maximum obtainable points. Thus, when all the 36 gunas match, the marriage is said to be perfect. It is, however, mostly hypothetical that all 36 gunas will match. In such cases, the maximum number of matching gunas is counted.
