Mary I of England
The Queen of England and Ireland from July 1553 until her death in 1558. A Roman Catholic, Mary earned her nickname 'Bloody Mary' for her persecution of Protestants. During her five-year reign as Queen, Mary had more than 280 religious dissenters burned at the stake.
