Ingredients
For the Dough:
● 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
● 2 teaspoons instant yeast
● 1/2 cup warm water
● 1/4 cup sugar
● 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
● 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
For the Filling:
● 1 cup char siu (Chinese barbecue pork), finely chopped
● 2 tablespoons soy sauce
● 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
● 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
● 1 teaspoon sugar
● 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water
● 1 teaspoon sesame oil
Instructions
1. Prepare the Dough
In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 minutes until foamy. Add flour, baking powder, and vegetable oil. Knead until smooth. Cover and let rest for 1 hour until doubled in size.
2. Prepare the Filling
In a pan over medium heat, combine char siu, soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and sugar. Stir well. Add the cornstarch slurry and cook until thickened. Remove from heat and stir in sesame oil. Let cool.
3. Assemble the Buns
Divide the dough into equal portions. Flatten each piece, place a spoonful of filling in the center, and pinch to seal. Let buns rest for 15 minutes.
4. Steam the Buns
Place buns in a steamer lined with parchment paper. Steam over medium heat for 12-15 minutes until puffy and cooked through.
5. Serve & Enjoy
Enjoy these warm, fluffy buns fresh from the steamer, with soy sauce or chili oil for extra flavor.
Tips for Perfect Steamed Pork Buns
● Use warm water: This helps activate the yeast for a fluffy texture.
● Let the dough rise properly: A well-risen dough ensures soft buns.
● Don’t overfill: Too much filling can make sealing difficult.
Make these Steamed Pork Buns at home and bring the joy of dim sum to your kitchen. Happy cooking!
