Durgiana temple - Amritsar
The temple is situated near the
Lohgarh gate, in Amritsar. Its architecture is similar to the Golden
Temple of Sikh religion. This temple derives its name from the Goddess
Durga, the chief Goddess deified and worshipped here. Idols of Goddess
Laksmi (goddess of wealth) and Vishnu (the protector of the world) are
also deified here and worshipped.
Durga temple - Varanasi
Situated very close to Varanasi,
this 18th century shrine was built by a Bengali queen. The multi tiered
shikhara is reminiscent of the Nagara style of architecture. The temple
is located on a huge rectangular tank. The Goddess here is said to
fiercely protect the locals from any outside influence. This temple is
also called the Monkey Temple due to the manifold presence of this
animal here.
Karni mata temple - Bikaner
The world famous Karni Mata
temple is located in at Deshnoke, Rajasthan. Karni Mata is worshipped as
one of the incarnation of the goddess Durga by her followers and the
temple is well famous for thousands of holy rats. Karni Mata Temple is
also known as temple of rats in India and the rats are sacred and given
protection.
