In the year 2003, after making a making a mark with her Bollywood debut Tujhe Meri Kasam, she was cast opposite Siddharth in Shankar's cult coming of age film Boys. Genelia played the character of rich girl Harini who defies all obstacles to be with her love. The film came under severe criticism initially for its bold theme, but later on received a cult status becoming a benchmark for youth and college oriented films. Boys gave Genelia her first memorable role.
