Google is rolling out fun and useful feature using AR that aims to help users shop more efficiently online. The new tech will let users try out makeup like lipsticks and eyeshadows virtually with the try-on experience on Google Search. When users search for makeup products from the collaborated brands on Google, they will get an option to experience a virtual try-on at the top of their search results. Users can click through photos of models representing various skin-tones to help compare the shades and find the right product.
Users can also try out the products on themselves virtually using the front-facing camera. When they choose the second option, a variety of lipstick or eyeshadow shades are shown on the bottom of the camera feed. This is similar to the AR used by Snapchat or Instagram filters to "beautify" a user, except the purpose here is different, that is helping the users shop using Google's shopping tab.
"If you're shopping for beauty products, it's difficult to make a decision on such personal items without trying them on. Say you want to know how sheer a lip gloss is, how much pigment is in an eyeshadow or what a product will look like on your skin tone, it can be difficult to understand these things without seeing the products up close," Google notes in a blog post.
