Malvi Malhotra pays a heartfelt tribute to Pandit Birju Maharaj

Malvi Malhotra practices Vijayshree Chaudhary who was a student with the late Pandit Birju Maharaj. She has been consistently working with Vijayshree Chaudhary. She has been extremely sad since pandit Ji passed and Malvi went to meet her when she was profusely weeping. They then practiced kathak as a tribute to pandit Ji as he would always want his disciples to be practicing. It was a hugely emotional moment between the two. As connoisseurs of kathak, it is the biggest of losses but the show has to go on. Malvi and Vijayshree Chaudhary has kept the light burning and that is a heartfelt tribute. 

Malvi said, I started learning Kathak in 2018 from Vijayshree who is a student with Pandit Birju Maharaj. She has spent 40 years learning it. She would always tell us how Maharaj used to teach. I had the fortune to meet him and he has a different charm. He is absolutely legendary. Anyone not even interested would want to learn from him after meeting him. I went to meet mam today as she was crying after pandit Ji passed. I told her if we could do some kathak and motivated her to do kathak as Maharaj Ji would want us to do. He would always want us to do those. Mam taught me a mudra which pandit Ji taught her before a month. It was an emotional moment when mam taught me this. Today we did kathak for 2-3 hours. There is a difference between a teacher and a guru. A guru guides you in every step. I could see that difference with mam. Whatever she learned with Maharaj Ji she teaches us. I will continue to learn kathak from mam for life. I wish Maharaji Ji, soul rests in peace and I would pray so that his legacy is always remembered.
