Learning how to love yourself is a key ingredient of happiness. Self love is at the very core of wellbeing, joy, self-empowerment, and our ability to enjoy the kind of life we want. Here are some tips how to learn to love yourself.
Self-care
Self-care means you treat yourself just as kindly and thoughtfully as you would anyone else. If you are uncomfortable doing something, then you don't do it and that's ok. Just because somebody might be disappointed that you didn't help him or her, that's his or her choice to feel that way.
Maintain your boundaries
Write a list of the things that you need emotionally. These are things that are important to you and upset you or hurt your feelings when they are ignored or violated. They could include being listened to, sympathy when you are hurt, celebrated when you succeed, love and tenderness without asking for it, being cared for and knowing you can rely on someone.
Appreciate your own individual strengths
We all have weaknesses, or things we'd rather change about ourselves. However, the problem comes in when you spend more time thinking about the areas where you need to improve than you do about the areas that you have already mastered, or excelled in. You can't love yourself if you are constantly nitpicking your flaws.
