Charlie Chaplin was a comedic British actor who became one of the biggest stars of the 20th century's silent-film era. He is most recognized as an icon of the silent film era, often associated with his popular character, the Little Tramp; the man with the toothbrush mustache, bowler hat, bamboo cane, and a funny walk. His writing, producing, directing, acting, and scoring of his own films received just as much attention as his controversial personal life. The London-born Chaplin had a penchant for marrying teenage women, and ended up fathering 11 children. Though his outspoken political views would eventually force him out of America for good in 1952, Chaplin's Hollywood legacy still burns brightly. Here are some facts about the legendary filmmaker.
He was born Charles Spencer Chaplin on April 16, 1889 in East Street, Walworth of South London according to him. Chaplin childhood was full of poverty and hardship. He was sent to workhouse at the age of seven. The council housed him at the 'Central London District School' and 'Norwood Schools' for paupers. He is the best example of rags to riches.
