The 5 foot 9 woman officer hails from Hoshiarpur in Punjab. Sher Gill, who has done B Tech in electronics and communications, was commissioned in Mar 2017 from OTA Chennai. Her hobbies include photography, travelling and music.
Her father was in 101 Medium Regiment (Artillery) while her grandfather was in the 14th Armed Regiment (Scinde Horse). Interestingly, her great grandfather was in the Sikh Regiment. Sher Gill's father served in the army and later joined the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
In last year's Republic Day parade, Captain Bhavna Kasturi was the first woman officer to lead an all-men contingent.
