If you want to get a promotion, you will need to be a patient team player while also being an ambitious self-promoter. It's a difficult balance to strike, but these tips can help.

Arrive at office on time

Sure, you are only expected to start working at 9am and finish at 5pm, but what's stopping you extending that period? Giving up just five or 10 minutes at the start and end of your day will barely impact on your schedule, but will definitely be noticed by your superiors who may just be looking at who is deserving of promotion. It even comes with the added bonus of reducing work-related stress as you have more time to get everything done, allowing you to work more effectively.

Face Challenges As Opportunities
If you want to be promoted, look at challenges as opportunities to shine. Do not complain about hard work, how hard you worked or if your assignment is tougher than your colleagues'. In everyone's mind, their own work is the hardest.

Make your contributions invisible

Just being known is not enough. To get promoted, you must be recognized as a key contributor. If you often find yourself thinking "No one has any idea how much I do around here!", then you need to find a way to let them know. Managers are not psychic.
