Heart It
Heard all sorts of advice about how you should behave at work, but wondering if there are elements of behavior you could adopt to better your performance and reputation in the workplace. The following steps will give you an edge in the workplace.
Arrive early, but do not work late
A lot of emphasis is placed on being punctual, but many people forget one important element of being punctual going home on time. Arriving early denotes a commitment to the job you have accepted, while leaving late each day gives away that you have lack luster time management skills. Impress your employer by conscientiously arriving early enough to prepare yourself for the work day ahead, work while you are at work, then leave when you are supposed to leave.
Be yourself
When you applied for the job you have, you behaved as yourself at your best. Employer hired you because there was something about your personality they thought their business might benefit from, financially. Resist the temptation to begin to emulate the behavior of your co workers. Employers are frequently disappointed to see a new hire who was lively and enthusiastic during the hiring process become morose and sullen after spending a few days with his/her other employees.
Never hesitate to promote the advancement of another worthy candidate
Employers appreciate employees who confidently promote and support other good workers. When you work hard and consistently help further your company's goals, you become a trusted voice; use your voice to help others who are worthy of advancement. If you play dirty in order to gain position in the company, your ineptitude for the job will become apparent very quickly and may cost you future promotions and a great deal of money.
