Volkswagen Golf R400
If you thought VW's new Golf R (which tears to 62mph in just 4.9 seconds) was something to get excited about, then hold onto your Recaro bucket seats. Not content with the already manic 295hp of that model, the German manufacturer has decided to squeeze even more out of the 2.0-litre four-cylinder TSI unit. Enter the Golf R400. The fierce R400 was shown in concept form at the Beijing Motor Show in April and although it uses the same turbo four as the Golf R under its bonnet, the Wolfsburg engineers have managed to up its output to a bonkers 395hp. We expect that to be sufficient for a lightning-quick 3.9-second streak to 62mph.
