She was first spotted by Farah Khan in the video of a Himesh Reshammiya Song. When she was a model, she appeared in the video 'Naam Hai Tera' from Himesh Reshammiya's album 'Aap Ka Suroor'. It was then that Farah Khan noticed her and approached her for 'Om Shanti Om'.
Farah Khan first approached Deepika for Happy New Year but the film didn't take off then and Deepika was instead signed for Om Shanti Om.
