Heart It
Selecting a career is one of the biggest decisions you will ever make. It will affect where you live, how much you make and the lifestyle you will enjoy. So you want to choose a career that is best suited to meet your expectations, needs and long-term goals. Here are some common mistakes people usually commit while choosing a career.
Not taking enough time
Good decisions are made by taking ample amount of time. With good peace-of-mind and solitude to look at different options, a person is able to make the right career choice. Plan in advance of what you want to do. The very first step is to list down the things you are interested in doing. It is necessary to assess your own personal characteristics ie your skills and interests, your likes and dislikes, your strengths and weaknesses. When you match this, you will be able to get closer to your career goal.
Failing to understand what is best for you
For most people figuring out their purpose in life and their dream career can be a simple and easier process while for others it may take a lifetime. Setting goals and just believing in them do not always work for everyone, which is why it is important to know who you are and where you want to be in life before deciding on your dream career. So try to understand what works best for you, don't get swayed by predictions of industry trends, career counsellors, aptitude tests, parental expectations or peer pressure. It is good to take advice from people but don't let them dictate terms to you.
Not considering location
Jobs in certain occupations are concentrated in specific cities - New York or Los Angeles for example - or in certain types of locations - such as cities versus rural areas. If you live somewhere that doesn't offer many opportunities in your field and you aren't willing to relocate, you will have trouble getting a job.
