1 cup unsalted butter (plus more for the pans), 2 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for the pans), 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 1 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp kosher salt, 1 and 1/2 cups sugar, 2 large eggs, 2 tsp pure vanilla extract, 2 tsp apple cider vinegar, 1 tbsp red food coloring, 1 cup buttermilk, cream cheese frosting
How to make
First, heat oven to 350 degree F. Now take two round cake pans and grease them with 8-inch butter. Dust pan cakes with flour and tapping out the excess. Take all purpose flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt in a medium bowl and whisk all together. Now set them aside. Now beat butter and sugar on medium-high until fluffy for 2-3 minutes. Beat in eggs, vanilla, vinegar and food coloring until incorporated, scraping down the sides of the bowl as necessary. Now add the flour mixture in 3 additions and the buttermilk in 2 additions, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix just until combined. Now divide this batter between the prepared pans and bake for at least 40 to 45 minutes. After the cakes are baked, cool them down in pans for 15 minutes. Now transfer one of the cooled cakes to a plate and spread with 1-1 and 1/2 cups of the frosting. Top with the second cake and spread the top and sides with the remaining frosting. Refrigerate for 30 minutes before serving. The delicious Red Velvet cake is ready to be served.
