Shetty is an Indian film actor who later turned producer and an entrepreneur as well. He was born on 11th August, 1961 to a Tulu-speaking ethnic Bunt family in Mulki, India. He debuted in 1992 with Balwaan, which performed averagely at the box office, but had to wait until his third film, Waqt Hamara Hai, before tasting success. However, his first major blockbuster hit came with Mohra, which released in 1994. He continued this trend of superhits with his next two films - Dilwale and Gopi Kishan. He continued to star in many hit movies of different genres; romantic, comedy, and action, including Border, Qayamat: City Under Threat, Hera Pheri, Awara Paagal Deewana, Phir Hera Pheri and many others.
Shetty set up his own production company called Popcorn Motion Pictures Ltd., which produced Khel - No Ordinary Game (2003), Rakht: What If You Can See the Future (2004) and Bhagam Bhag (2006). He also starred in the English film Don't Stop Dreaming in 2007 and the Tamil film 12B in 2001 as well as hosting Biggest Loser Jeetega on Sahara One. He is now the captain of the Mumbai Heroes cricket team in the Celebrity Cricket League and married to Mana Shetty with two children, Ahan and Athiya.
Shetty has won 3 awards:
Filmfare Best Villain Award for his role of Dev in Dhadkan in 2000, the SAIFF Award for Best Actor for his role of Narasimha in Red Alert: The War Within in 2008 and the Stardust Search Light Award for Best Actor again for Red Alert: The War Within in 2011. He was also nominated for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award three times in 1994 for Dilwale, in 1997 for Border, and in 2000 for Refugee, as well as being nominated for Filmfare Best Villain Award for his work in Main Hoon Naa in 2004.
