In his village Vadnagar, when nobody pressed clothes he would do to his own clothes with a metal pot; while a red sacred thread on the right hand was a given among many Hindus, Modi would sport a black one on his left hand just to look different. "It was this trait that brought the half-sleeve kurta," says senior Congress leader Shankersinh Vaghela. Modi's half-sleeve kurta has become a fashion trend among politicians and youngsters alike. Jade Blue, the fashion mega store, is now a production house of Modi brand clothes. In the same vein of looking and behaving differently, he created his self-proclaimed Gujarat model of development that has endeared him to the corporate sector.
