Narasimha... Half lion
Half man
The asura king Hiranyakasyipu had a boon from Brahma that he
would not die either on earth or in space, nor in fire nor in water, neither
during day nor at night, neither inside nor outside, nor by a human, animal or
God, neither by inanimate nor by animate being that made him almost
indestructible. Hence, to kill Hiranyakasyipu, Lord Vishnu took the form of
Narasimha (half lion half man) to make the boon ineffective. He killed the
demon king at twilight on the doorsteps of his palace with his nails by placing
him on his lap.
