There were 10 million deaths in 2020, and one out of every six deaths is due to cancer. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer. More than one million Americans and responsible for nearly 10,000 deaths every year. Here are eight tips to prevent skin cancer.
Slop on the Sunscreen
Use sunscreens with an SPF of 15 or more that contain both UVA and UVB protection. Apply sunscreen 15-30 minutes before going outside, and reapply every 2 hours (more often when working, playing, or swimming).
Reduce sun exposure
Especially between 11 am and 4 pm, when the sun’s UV rays are the strongest or when UV index is 3 or more.
Wear a hat
Hats are an easy way to protect yourself from the sun. The American Cancer Society recommends a hat with "at least a 2- to 3-inch brim all around to protect the neck, ears, eyes, forehead, and scalp.
