Socializing helps you live longerWe all love a pre- or post-Christmas catch-up with friends, but if you need one more reason (or excuse) to say yes to that next invitation, here it is: People who have satisfying relationships with friends and family have been shown to be happier, have fewer health problems and live longer than those with fewer social ties, according to a report published in the Harvard Women's Health Watch newsletter. Johnson agrees, adding that "Christmas is a time for that rare acknowledgement of the true centrality of relationships in our lives."
Even if you can't take time out to spend one-on-one periods with loved ones, Johnson recommends focusing on the incidental interactions that occur as you wrap, shop, cook and clean alongside family or friends. "If it's a sticky web of dysfunctional dynamics, focus on at least one person or interaction that can make for a meaningful connection," she advises.
