Kaziranga

The Kaziranga National Park in the north-eastern state of Assam is famous for its wildlife and conservation of endangered species. Spread over a vast area on the embankment of River Brahmaputra, its grasslands and wetlands are home to elephants, tigers and the world’s largest population of one-horned rhinos. Apart from these, the sanctuary has an abundance of swamp deer and wild water buffaloes. Taking a jeep or elephant safari in the national park is a memorable experience. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Kaziranga National Park lures leisure travellers from all over India annually.

Lachung

Lachung is one of the most beautiful places to visit in North East India. The small village town atop the mountains is close to Tibet and Sikkim's border. Lachung is home to a famous 19th-century monastery encircled by beautiful apple orchards. Another major attraction in the nearby Yumthang Valley is the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, which protects various species of rhododendron plants. The Yumthang Valley, called the ‘Zero Point’, is renowned for its abundant hot springs, dense pine forests, and waterfalls. Standing 8,858 feet above sea level, Lachung deserves to feature in every tourist visiting Sikkim's North East holiday itinerary.

Cherrapunji

Cherrapunji is famed as the second wettest place in India, as the town receives an average rainfall of 11,777 mm annually. The place is known for its natural wonders, like the Double Decker Living Root Bridges made from rubber trees and the gorgeous Nohkalikai Falls, offering a view of seven multiple streams gushing down a cliff simultaneously. A trip to natural gems like Thangkharang National Park and Nortek National Park might provide you with an encounter with the Red Panda and some other rare species of flora and fauna. This high-altitude town is also a haven for adventure junkies looking for some exciting caving experiences. Mawsmai Cave in Cherrapunji is the fourth longest cave in the Indian subcontinent. It also features a pool created by five different rivers.

Tawang

A trip to Arunachal Pradesh is complete if you visit Tawang. Located 2,669 m east of Bhutan, it is a top North East holiday destination. The town is best known for its 400-year-old Buddhist monastery, which attracts many local devotees and tourists.
