The identical boy or girl
Actually, the general public lacks the understanding of this term. The term 'fraternal' or 'identical' describes, how twins are formed, not how they look. Monozygotic (identical) twins are of the same gender. Identical twins are formed from a single zygote. Identical twins can either be female (XX) or male (XY), not male and female. On the other hand, fraternal twins are formed from two different eggs, fertilized by two separate sperms. Thus, fraternal twins can either be two boys, two girls or one of each.
